CHINCHERO
As we delve into Chapter 2 of the AW24 collection, titled ‘Soroche,’ meaning altitude sickness especially in the Andes, we continue the journey to Chinchero, the highest town in the Cusco region
Chinchero is famous for its weaving cooperatives, where various families and groups (often organized as cooperatives or associations) continue the ancient tradition of Andean weaving and natural dyeing techniques.
The craftswomen from the Quechua Tribe use techniques that date back to the Inca period. A variety of natural matter such as plants, seeds, mosses and even insects create wide range of stunning colors. For example, the cochineal insect, a parasite that commonly lives on cacti, produces over 15 different shades of red.
The textiles are known for their intricate designs, vibrant colors, and symbolic patterns that reflect their connection to the natural world and their cultural heritage. More Chinchero updates to come, as we were able to collaborate on a limited range of products with the weaving cooperative.
