Our fourth batch of A Kind of Wine was produced in collaboration with Werlitsch, a biodynamic winery located in the limestone hills of Southern Styria, near the Slovenian border. The grapes come from over 50-year-old vines and were harvested unusually late in a rare second picking, allowing for a wine of depth, clarity, and vibrant texture.
The label, created by Nicolas Yuthanan Chalmeau, is inspired by ritual masks from his childhood in Thailand. It evokes themes of identity, transformation, and layered meaning, just like the wine itself. Both the art and the Welschriesling speak in subtle, crafted tones, connecting cultural memory with natural expression.
Werlitsch Welschriesling 2023 is a natural white wine with a juicy, hearty, and authentic profile. It underwent wild fermentation, full malolactic conversion, and was aged for 14 months on fine lees in neutral wooden barrels — unfiltered and untouched. Expect lively acidity, subtle citrus and herb notes, and a tactile minerality that captures the soul of Southern Styria.
